Governor Jack Ranguma has waived bills amounting to Sh411,000 for patients who had been detained for a long time to create space at the JOORTH hospital.
Mr Ranguma said there are many people who are unable to leave hospitals because they have no money to pay.
“I had to intervene because I have received so many requests," he said when he visited the hospital during the free medical camp courtesy of doctors from USA.
He said people whose fees were waived were not only from Kisumu but from other counties as well.
“This I had to do because of the pathetic situation and the condition they represented to me," he said adding that he was happy with the turn out of residents not only in Kisumu but from other counties for treatment.
He said the people who went for the outreach were not only from Kisumu but Siaya, Migori, Vihiga and Kakamega.
The one-week medical camp will see patients treated for various ailments, including fistula and eye problems.
