Governor Jack Ranguma has accused MPs in the county of hijacking road projects that have been undertaken by his county government.
Ranguma said most of the roads in the county have been done by his government but MPs are taking credit.
He said in some instances, boards erected on the roads have been pulled out and replaced with boards bearing Constituency Development Fund (CDF) initials.
Ranguma said he has reported the matter to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) but nothing has been done.
“I had written to EACC to investigate this matter, our boards giving information on the road status have been chopped off and replaced by CDF,” he said.
Ranguma said the idea is for the MPs to reap from his projects.
Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday when he launched a score card report on Kisumu County done by the National Taxpayers Association (NTA), the governor said taxpayers’ money is being misappropriated in such schemes.
Ranguma directed county ward administrators to create awareness among the public on what developments the county government is carrying out in their localities.
“Whenever there is a funeral, these MPs take credit of my roads. To the ward administrators please always talk in these funerals as well and tell the public the roads we have undertaken as a county,” he said.
He announced that the roads department has kicked off a survey to document all the roads under the county government.
The governor said the survey document will be given to the public.
Western Kenya NTA coordinator Deurence Onyango said the score card generally looked into roads, educational facilities and hospitals being funded by the county government.
Onyango said they incorporated an engineer from the county government among the people who audited how the public funds were utilized to carry out the projects across the 35 wards.
