Ruiru Police Commander James Ng'etich said the suspect identified as Samuel Chege was arrested in Ruiru, Kiambu for allegedly sexually assaulting and violently robbing his victims.

Ng’etich said the suspect has been linked to a series of rape and robbery cases for the past few months, crimes he has been committing alone and sometimes in the company of three other suspects.

He said police have been tracking the suspect for the last two months after numerous reports were reported at the police station in Kiambu.

The Police boss noted that the suspect was trailed by police after his victims, mainly women whom he had raped in the presence of their husbands, recorded statements and filled P3 forms at the station.

During the raid at his hideout, the police recovered two flat screen television sets, national identity cards, sim cards and a smartphone that had been stolen from one of his victims from a house in Kawangware.

The Police Commander noted that the rate of crime had increased in Mwihoko, Kahawa Sukari and Githurai areas of Kiambu County.

“We have been tracking the suspect for over two months. We began trailing the suspect with the help of the victims and members of the public and we managed to trace him to a building near Githurai-Kimbo police station,” said Ng'etich as quoted by Daily Nation

“The suspect who is in police custody seems to have networks within Githurai area with whom he collaborates to steal from innocent residents and rape women. They are usually armed with guns, knives and other crude weapons. We are trailing his accomplices,” he added.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned at the Thika Magistrates Court to face robbery with violence and rape charges.
