Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui alongside his Kiambu County counterpart Ferdinand Waititu, attended the Annual National Planners' Convention in Nakuru.
The forum brings together planners from across the country to discuss counties’ spatial plans, local physical development plans, effective governance of cities and urban areas.
"Nakuru County is keen on collaborating with planners as we work towards achieving a city status," Lee said on Tuesday.
There is rapid population growth in Nakuru town, something the governor said poses a challenge owing to the fact that the town is located between Menengai Crater and Lake Nakuru National Park.
According to him, planning is crucial to make good use of the existing space and facilities.
