A pair of rare white giraffes has been spotted in Garissa County. The giraffes, a mother and child, have become the talk on social media and other platforms because of their uniqueness and beauty.

The animals were captured on photograph and videos, which have gone viral. According to experts, the giraffes suffer from a health related complication referred to as leucism.

The disease prevents pigmentation in the animals’ skin cells hence making them appear white and pale in colour. This condition is different from albinisms as per the expert.

Albinism involves only the absence of melanin but this condition occurs when there is the reduction on different types of pigment.

Kenyans on social media have continued to share photos of the animals while at the same time boasting of national heritage following the rare scene. The giraffes have been falling prey to other animals in the jungle, considering the rule “Survival for the fittest.

The animals are considered one of the greatest tourist attractions in the region where water shortages and drought have been part of the day.  The county keeps attracting tourists from all over the world because of these animals.
