Kisumu County Gubernatorial 2017 candidates on Satuday had a rare opportunity to show case their ideas to the people of Kisumu.
Speaking in Muhoroni constituency during the burial of Prof Ayiecho Olweny’s mother, the aspirants spoke on various issues.
Prof Peter Wayumba said locals should be empowered to own properties in Kisumu city.
Wayumba said most of the buildings since independence have been owned by Asians.
“We must empower our people to own buildings and get wealth for sustainability of the future generation,” he said.
Dr Hezron Makobewa said that during his tenure as the NGO board chairman, he managed to set up a unit in Kisumu.
Makobewa said in the past only Sh1.3 billion annually was being disbursed to Nyanza region.
He said during his term he pushed the allocation to Sh22 billion annually being disbursed by NGOs in Nyanza region.
“During my stint at the NGO board, I left a mark, now Nyanza people are getting donor money because of the structures I put in place,” he said.
Makobewa told Prof Anyang Nyong’o who is also vying for the same seat to prepare for a duel.
Asaka Nyangara on his part said he will ensure that no fish from China finds way to Kisumu.
Nyangara said he will deal with the waste disposal at Kachok.
“The city is filthy, my priority once elected into office is to remove that chocking waste at Kachok. The city must be clean to be able to attract investments,” he said.
Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma missed the event as he was in a visit to Italy.
