Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has told his political opponents to brace for a tight battle ahead of the August 8 polls.
He said his development record speaks for itself and that no politician from Siaya will beat him for the position of governor.
"I am the best bet for Siaya governorship," he said at a rally in Bondo town on Tuesday.
"My work has been tried and tested in the past four years. I need a second term to complete the numerous development projects I initiated."
Rasanga is facing an uphill re-election task as his opponents plan on how to end his reign in August.
Among those challenging him are businessman William Oduol, Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo and former Regional Development Permanent Secretary Carey Orege.
The county chief has been under pressure to explain how his administration spent the billions of shillings sent by the Treasury to the county.
Interestingly, five of the six MPs from Siaya- David Ochieng (Ugenya), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem), Muluan Omondi (Alego Usonga) amd Mr Gumbo who backed him during the 2013 polls have since withdrawn their support, accusing him of mismanaging the county resources.
Only Nominated MP Dr Oburu Odinga supports his re-election.
Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) supports businessman Oduol.
