Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has threatened to take legal action against a company he accuses of 'illegally' growing sugarcane in the county.
Dominion Company, according to the county chief in an agreement it signed with the county government was not supposed to invest in sugarcane growing in the county.
"Dominion started farming sugarcane a few days after I was sworn in and they never bothered to consult the county government, knowing very well that the MoU never talked of sugarcane," Rasanga was quoted by the Star as saying.
He said the company, contrary to the agreement was growing sugarcane at Yala swamp.
Rasanga spoke on Wednesday at Ratuoro, a few metres away from the company's premise.
He had earlier on commissioned a survey to identify land the company was to occupy.
He said unless the company ceases from growing sugarcane, the best his office will do is institute legal measures to solve the problem.
