Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga says he will name a road under construction in the county after himself because he is a hero while the other road will be named after Fidel Odinga, ODM party leader Raila Odinga's first born son.
Fidel died last year.
"I have done a lot. Is naming one of the roads leading to my office after myself a problem?" Rasanga asked.
Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Siaya County Stadium, the governor said he will also name some sections of the roads under construction after two residents who were shot by the police during the anti-IEBC protests.
This, he said was in honor of their bravery in the fight for the exit of the IEBC commissioners.
Area Deputy Governor Ouma Onyango sparked off the debate when he proposed that Rasanga should be installed as a hero for he is the first governor of the county.
"You cannot write the history of Siaya without mentioning Rasanga as the first Governor of Siaya.
Of concern to the governor however, is that the fete was skipped by all the six MPs from the county.
The MPs accuse the county chief of mismanaging the county's resources.
The area Senator, James Orengo too gave it a wide berth.
Only three MCAs who hail from Alego, Rasanga's backyard attended the event.
Also in attendance was former Gem MP Joe Donde who is the County Public Service Board chairman.
