JSC is said to have started preparing their retirement letters and started the process of filling their positions.

The Judiciary’s director of communications Naim Bilal on Wednesday said it had prepared normal retirement letters for the two, which require them to clear with the institution.

“These letters have been issued by the JSC through its secretary Anne Amadi, who is also the chief registrar of the judiciary,” said Bilal.

Justice Rawal ought to have retired on January 6, 2016, while Tunoi should have officially retired on June 3, 2014.

The tenure of office as provided in Article 167 of the Constitution states that judges should retire at the age of 70.
