Rongai MP Raymond Moi has asked the Ministry of Education to act with speed in hiring more teachers in his constituency.
Speaking at Burgei Secondary School at the weekend, Moi attributted the poor performance in last year's KCSE exams to under staffing.
"I am appealing to Dr Fred Matiang'i (Education CS) to ensure we have sufficient teachers in our schools. We want his ministry through Teachers Service Commission to employ more teachers", said the MP.
He said 179 students out of 233 candidates at Athenai Mixed Secondary School scored D- (minus), while the rest had X's and Y's.
"Its very unfair for parents who pay fees for their children not to get value for their money and time", he added.
The MP had attended a ground-breaking ceremony at Burgei Secondary where the Japan's Ambassador to Kenya, Tatsushi Terada presented Sh7.2 million for developing the institution.
"Japan is delighted to give this donation which go far much way in equipping the school with education facilities essential for the institution", said Mr Terada.
The funds will be used to furnish a science laboratory, poultry pen, installation of water tanks and construction of toilets blocks.
The MP and the school management thanked the Japanese government for supporting Kenyan children through various projects.
