According to them, tragedies have increased in various schools because punishments were removed by the government prompting the emergence of rebel students in schools.

Addressing the press on Wednesday in Kisii town residents led by Gladys Onchiro proposed that government should re-introduce punishment in schools to hinder the destruction of government properties.

“We can’t allow tragedies to continue happening in our schools, we send our children to schools to study and to help themselves in future but since the government banned punishments, we are incurring some losses which come through unknown tragedies in our schools,” said Onchiro.

“We urge the government to re-introduce corporal punishments t counter the rebellious nature of our children,” added Peter Nyakaba another resident.

Nyakaba also proposed that if possible those schools which get burned should be changed to day schools.
