Kisumu County government in partnership with Rural Electrification Authority (REA) will install eight high mast lights in various markets and schools.
Speaking in Kisumu during the 52 years of Madaraka Day celebrations at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground on Monday afternoon, Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma said that Sh40M has been set aside for the project.
"The eight high mast lights will be additional to 23 floods set in the major estates within Kisumu City,” said Governor Ranguma.
He added, "This arrangement will also see the connection of various dispensaries to the grid."
Governor Ranguma said that the county has signed an MoU for the production of green energy to boost the energy supply for industrial use within the county.
"We will of course sell the surplus to the national grid," added Governor Ranguma.
He said that there are progressive considerations in negotiations for suitable land for the development of the Special Economic Zone.
"Indeed, our ultimate plan is to build leverage on the sugarcane, cotton, rice, fruits, sorghum, minerals and all sectors with available raw materials within the county," said Governor Ranguma.
