News that Members of Parliament were complaining about lack of toilet papers in the house’ toilets was met with hilarious reactions on social media.
On Wednesday, the lawmakers said the bad state of facilities in parliament did not befit their status.
“You cannot tell me that a parliament where legislators of a country stay you cannot have toilet paper that at one point you go to the washroom and there are no toilet papers,” said National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi during a parliamentary session.
He added, “In fact, at Continental house, you have to be very careful you have to check whether the taps are running because you may mess yourself…before you take any action you must find out whether there’s running water coz otherwise if you come to some civilization you really need that water after passing through some activity.”
The MPs' revelation elicited several reactions among Kenyans. Here is how Kenyans on Twitter reacted to the news:
Activist Benji Ndolo said:“Here's somewhere Thirdway Alliance can start. Gotta start somewhere, resolve problems.”
James Nevricks said, “With Duale, Sonko, Babu Owino and Junet this is expected.”
@Darula_eddy wrote: “So Toilet paper is lacking in Parliament but when it comes to any meeting, there's sitting allowance.”
@mchinaz said: “Does it mean MPs' are eating more than what they can wipe?”
@moni_atise said: “So they also use tissue papers to wipe themselves just like a common man? I thought wanakula nyama huku wakijiwipe na pesa!”
