This development is a culmination of wide-ranging investigations initiated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The residents of the county of Garissa have been reacting to the development that has left scores of them blindsided.

Here is what some of them had to say:

''This is encouraging. I am very happy,'' Khalif Elmoge said.

''Arrests are a good starting point. We want them prosecuted and thrown behind bars,'' Jasmine Mohamed said.

''Some of us here in Garissa are suffering because of what those thieves have done. This is good,'' Kuno Said said.

''I just hope that this is not just a public relations game. We want to see the suspects severely punished,'' Fahmi Amad said.

''We are fully behind the arrests,'' Kamar Juma said.

''The big fish should also be arrested, not just the small fish,'' Hamza Omar said.

''It is still too early to be happy. We have seen people being arrested but were released later. That could happen again,'' Jamal Balo said.
