Photo/Hivisasa.com]It has been the country's tradition that during an election period, aspirants use posters to express their interest for an elective position. The posters usually bear portrait of the aspirant, party symbols and colours, the position being sought after and their slogan. Slogan are used to 'sell' the candidates to the electorate and play a key role in winning supporters.Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat has attracted close to ten aspirants all seeking for the Jubilee party ticket but as things stand now, the race is narrowed down to three individuals, incumbent Jackson Mandago, business mogul Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki and Nandi County Health Department Chief Officer Dr Edward Serem.Governor Mandago will be seeking to defend his seat and has chosen the slogan 'Shujaa wa Maendeleo' loosely translated to 'The Champion of Development'.This basically gives an impression that he has helped initiate many development projects which he will be using to convince voters to give him a second term in office.Buzeki, a well known name in the business circles in the country has picked a Kalenjin slogan 'Nebo Chego' meaning, 'of milk.'This could have been informed by the fact that he want to remind voters in the county that he is the man who owned the then Buzeki dairies which bought milk from dairy farmers. The company has since been bought by Brookside dairies. On the other hand Dr Serem picked a Swahili slogan 'Haki na Usawa' loosely translated to as 'Truth and Equality'.When he first came into the limelight, he was popular among locals who felt the governor Mandago's administration had sidelined their areas interms of distribution of development projects and employment opportunities. With the Jubilee party nominations set for April 21, it's just a matter of time before we know which slogan will carry the day.
