Sanofi has unveiled Maalox Lemon stick - an antacid said to be fast acting at soothing, relieving of heartburn, hyperacidity and indigestion. The stick is the pioneer dosage form in the antacid market in Kenya with it being ‘ready to drink’ anytime and anywhere. It can be purchased over the counter. Initially Maalox was only available in the market as a prescription only drug and patients could only access it after a prescription by a doctor. However, with the entry of the small and convenient pack, Maalox will be available over the counter and consumers can easily access the product from pharmacies countrywide. Speaking during the launch, Sanofi’s Consumer Health Care Business Unit Head for Eastern Southern Africa, Kenneth Bide said: “There are many people with hyperacidity and acid indigestion due to consumption of spicy foods, various medications or a stressed lifestyle. Maalox Lemon stick is the solution as you can carry it in your pocket, wallet or bag.” This medication can be used by people with conditions such as hyperacidity, indigestion, dyspepsia, gastritis, oesophageal reflux and peptic ulceration. “It is estimated that sixty percent of the adult population will experience some type of gastroesophageal reflux disease resulting from hyperacidity,” according to Healthline.com an online medical journal. Sanofi is a global healthcare provider of therapeutic solutions in diabetes and cardiovascular, general medicines and emerging markets, Sanofi Genzyme, Sanofi Pasteur and Consumer Healthcare.
