Investors should consider emergencies while erecting houses in Mavoko Sub County, an expert has said.
Addressing the press in Athi River town on Friday, architect Stephen Okumu said most of the residential houses in the region were inaccessible during emergencies.
Mr Okumu said the most affected areas were slums in Athi River, Mlolongo and Joska where there were no access roads to allow for movement of emergency services vehicles.
According to Okumu, some of the investors have blocked access roads thereby blocking access to the residences of ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles whenever there was need.
"I call on all investors in Mavoko Sub County whether local or international to be self responsible and avoid constructing property on roads and road reserves, this will help in ensuring lives are not unnecessary lost in cases of emergencies," said Okumu.
Okumu attributed the blockages to greed, corruption and rampant land grabbing thereby making it difficult to respond to emergencies like fire outbreaks, floods, security emergencies among others.
He said the county government of Machakos should rise up to task and ensure that the anomalies were averted for safety of the residents.
