According to the Standard, the real estate tycoon announced his bid for Makueni governor seat at Kikima market in Mbooni constituency on Saturday.

While announcing his bid, Mr Masika vowed to spearhead development across Makueni if elected as governor in the August 8 general election.

He also pledged to spearhead unity in the county and larger Ukambani region.

“If elected, I plan to work with other leaders to push for development and unity of Makueni and larger Ukambani people,” he said as quoted by the Standard.

Mr Masika said that he has what it takes to push for development projects that will benefit locals. The aspirant accused the current governor of allegedly failing to deliver key services to the people despite receiving funding from the national government.

The real estate tycoon will be running on a Wiper party ticket.

Mr Masika’s entry into the Makueni governor race comes days after incumbent Kibwana rejected calls to join Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party.

Kibwana has been under pressure to fold his party and join Wiper.

Professor Kibwana will be seeking re-election as governor on his Muungano party.
