Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacist and Dentist Union (KMPDU) on Thursday warned that they could take the move if the government would not honour the Return to Work Formula (RTWF) signed in March 2017 between KMPDU and the Government of Kenya.
The union claimed that the agreement signed had been selectively applied leaving out doctors in teaching institutions.
“Medical Schools in the country will be closed with effect from 1/2/18 if the government does not honour the RTWF signed in March 2017 between KMPDU and the Government of Kenya. The RTWF has been selectively applied leaving out doctors in teaching institutions,” KMPDU Union wrote on their twitter account.
In a press statement on Thursday, the union said the training of doctors, dentist and pharmacist were seriously under threat due to the failure of all public university to incorporate and pay lecturers who are doctors the allowances negotiated by KMDPU.
These allowances were agreed to be paid to all doctors from 1st January 2017.
The union claimed that it’s over one year since they signed the agreement and yet over 600 lectures who are doctors haven’t been paid.
