NASA MPs are living following the decision by the government withdraw the security detail of some of the members who attended the swearing in of Raila Odinga.
The government says the ceremony was illegal, but NASA, through the Minority Whip Junet Mohamed says the move to pull off their security was also illegal.
In a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mohamed accuses the government of not following down the right procedures.
He further argues that the Parliamentary Service Commission, which manages the MPs’ welfare, did not sanction it, and that the move only targets leaders allied to the NASA coalition.
The letter is also copied to the clerk of the National Assembly and the leader of Minority in the National Assembly.
The Suna East MP accused the government of perpetrating a culture of impunity, saying security for members of Parliament was not a favour extended to them by the executive.
Other NASA legislators share the same sentiments, with many saying they are secure but need their security back.“I am already written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, you may not like me, but you need to respect that office,” said John Mbadi.
