These are some of the possible reasons why the opposition chiefs turned down the invitation;

1. Politics

If the opposition leaders decided to attend the fete, they feared it would be seen as yielding into the ruling party.

2. Uhuru’s invite could have been a ridicule

3. Uhuru Kenyatta might not have meant to welcome the Cord party. He might have done that to gain political mileage since he knew well the opposition would not attend.

4. Raila sees Uhuru as his junior

Raila was in politics long before Uhuru Kenyatta. It is not appropriate for a ‘junior’ to invite him. It should have been the other way round.

5.The unyielding nature of Raila

Raila has been known to have never yielded or bowed to the other party. He has not yielded to calling off the  anti-IEBC campaigns. That his nature.

6.To criticize Jubilee

Cord had planned to hold rallies at Uhuru Park in Nairobi where they would have all the time to criticize Jubilee. At Afraha Jubilee would be calling the shots.
