Moiben Member of Parliament has welcomed a recent move by the Ministry of Agriculture to suspend top National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials over alleged corruption in the purchase of maize and distribution of subsidized fertilizers to farmers.
In a post on his official Facebook Page on Tuesday, Tiren, however, warned against any attempt to cover up the scam at the cereals board.
The Jubilee MP who has been vocal in advocating for farmers issues insists that investigations should be thoroughly doe and all those involved prosecuted.
“The recent purge done at NCPB is welcomed. However, this should not serve as a cover-up of the rot that has made Kenyans suffer,” said Tiren.
“The investigations should yield results and name those involved so that justice can be served by bringing the perpetrators to book,” he added.
The two-time MP further challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to take the lead in ensuring corruption in the country comes to an end noting that, “As we play our role of oversight, the buck stops at the office of the President to end this menace that is corruption."
“Incidences of public servants siphoning taxpayers’ money and if caught just resign or step down with no further action should come to an end. Let those who are found guilty face the full force of the law,” added the MP who was branded a rebel after a row over the National Parliament Agriculture Committee leadership.
This comes at a time The Agriculture Principal Secretary Richard Lesyampe suspended 58 top NCPB officials after revelations that eight ‘traders’ were paid a total of Sh1.9 billion for the last three months alone, money the ministry says would have paid close to 4000 farmers who supplied maize to the bard.
The traders’ allegedly bought maize from neighboring countries and NCPB cleared them to deliver the produce as farmers and were paid at the expense of suffering farmers who have repeatedly cried out seeking payment that hasn't been forthcoming for the last six months.
