Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has urged the National government to buy new silos for the National Cereals Board Eldoret (NCPB) depot.
He said the current silos, especially in Eldoret town, are ineffective and outdated.
“I want to call upon the national government to set some funds in this financial year to buy new silos for the Eldoret NCPB depot for farmers to effectively deliver their maize without any problem. The silos are very old and have not been serviced for decades,” said the Moiben legislator in Eldoret town, Thursday.
“Recently two driers burnt due to an electrical fault but up to now, they have not been repaired. They should either repair the driers or replace them with new ones since farmers are really suffering,” he added.
The Jubilee MP, however, said that he will continue fighting for the farmer's rights even after he was stripped of the Agriculture Committee chairmanship at the National Assembly.
“I want to assure farmers that despite what happened I will continue being their voice even without the chairmanship position by ensuring that their rights are not infringed,” noted Tiren who has been branded a rebel following the Parliament committee leadership row.
