A driver of a vehicle ferrying Miraa has been jailed for four years for an offence of reckless driving which left four pedestrians dead and two of his passengers severely injured in January 19 this year.

28-year-old Kioko Musyoka was on Thursday arraigned in Kithimani Law Court for charges of speeding, killing and causing injury near Kaewa location along the Matuu-Kanyoonyoo Road.

Musyoka was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Davis Karani in Kithimani Law court.

This is after investigation by Police officers from Matuu Police Station who on Thursday provided a report that Musyoka was held in custody after he caused an accident that was as a result of breaking Traffic Rules by speeding and carrying excess passengers and goods.

According to the report, “On Monday January 19 2015 the accused driving a vehicle type Probox caused an accident that left four pedestrians dead, and two passengers in his vehicle injured. Investigation on the scene showed that the vehicle was moving at a very high speed and the number of passengers in the car was 7 instead of 4.”

In his ruling, Magistrate Karani found the accused guilty of breaking Traffic Rules and further putting the lives of others in danger and causing death of four.

He ordered that the accused be sentenced for four years in jail without an option of a fine for speeding, careless driving and causing death of four passengers.

The accused was also ordered to pay a fine of Sh10,000 for carrying excess passengers failure to which he serves an extra three months in jail.
