Kisii farmers have been advised to embraced banana farming seriously to make kisii county recover its "land of ndizi" nickname.
This was said by Dr. Ephraim A. Mukisira, the Kisii university council leader, during an agricultural open day in that was held in Nyosia farm, Bobaracho ward on Wednesday 19th.
Banana production has reduced in the county due to poor farming method and change in climates.
"Bananas are very nutritious and profitable hence we should enable our farmers to plant advanced banana types," Dr. Mukisira said.
During the exposition day, the farmers we advised to plant the Uganda Green banana and Giant Cavendish as they are hardy but yield more. Sweet banana were also named as one of the best species that so well in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
"We will make sure the university helps you to advance as we are here to help you. That's the role of the agricultural sector in our institution," Pro. John Akama, the vice chancellor said.
Farmers were given advanced suckers that were tissue cultured for then to improve their banana types.
