Justice George Odunga questioned the criteria used by the commission to gather information about the applicants, saying that it relied mostly on other state bodies without giving them a chance.

He also directed that the names of successful candidates from the interviews are not forwarded to the president for appointment until those who were left put are given a second chance.

Odunga requested for all public information about the shortlisting and the criteria used, a case filed by Prof Yash Pal Ghai.

The interviews for CJ come just a few months after Willy Mutunga stepping down from the docket.
