The Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga will regain his political strength by reconstituting the ODM national secretariat, observes a parliamentary aspirant.
The party has witnessed an exodus of key leaders in the recent past with Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba being most recent high profile exit.
But Dr Nyandoro Kambi who is eyeing the Borabu constituency parliamentary seat said Mr Odinga would be able to deal with discontent in the party by dissolving the secretariat and reconstituting it afresh.
“The ODM leader is a very genuine man and some of these mass exits from the party is actually about succession politics because many of them know that he may retire in the near future. However, to combat that, he should reconstitute the secretariat for the sake of saving his 2017 chances,” Nyandoro who is on a tour in Spain told this writer on the phone.
“The secretariat as presently constituted does not reflect the face of Kenya and that portrays the party in a negative manner. For instance, some senior seats such as the secretary political affairs, Director of Elections, chairperson and treasurer come from Nyanza. That alone can cost him an election,” he added.
He also challenged Mr Odinga to hold a national party crisis meeting that will give an avenue for all party officials and members to air out their grievances.
“Alternatively, he can convene a meeting from grassroots leaders to national level and gather information before arriving at the decision but in my opinion, the national secretariat should be reconstituted,” said Nyandoro.
