As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE) enters its day two, a record one and a half million candidates on Monday sat for their form four examinations, with no case of irregularity reported.

The sky-high candidature number for 2016 is the highest ever KCSE examination takers since the tests were first examined in 1989. 

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released information revealing that an additional 78,886 candidates were registered this year as compared to 2015.

On Monday morning, the candidates began the examinations with Mathematics paper. Other papers that are slated to appear in the first week of examinations are English, Kiswahili, Chemistry, Home Science, Arts and Design, Building Construction.

In 2015, the results of some 5,000 candidates were cancelled over alleged examinations malpractices. Education CS Fred Matiang’i this year revised the national examinations rules with the aim of curbing cheating and other anomalies
