Gituamba MCA Samuel Ng’ang’a has vowed to battle out rampant use of drugs and illicit liquor in the area.
Ng’ang’a said this on Monday while addressing Kanyoni youths during a youth meeting aimed at checking their progress after rehabilitation.
He hinted that drugs were hampering developments in his ward vowing to join hands with other stakeholders to battle out the vice that had seen over 10 young men lose lives in the recent past as well as leaving more than twenty downhearted.
“I’m happy that most of you can now be relied upon by your families after being rehabilitated and engaged to societal building. As the county we are ready to fully eradicate use of drugs and illegal liquor and instead help our youths better their tomorrow,” he said.
Gatundu North deputy police Commandant Titus Kiongo revealed that police would be on high alert and should any person be found manufacturing and selling disallowed drinks; he would be face the full force of the law.
The meeting comes a week after 10 litres of chang’aa were destroyed in the neighbouring Githobokoni and four people arrested.
“I also urge our chiefs and their assistants whose areas of jurisdiction are known to be mostly affected by brews to put more efforts and help in the vice eradication,” added Kiongo.
He said that any chief or assistant who area will be found with brews manufacture will not only be fired but will also be prosecuted.
The rehabilitated youths who were counselled and given technical course training at Gituamba Polytechnic were assured county government technical jobs.
