Fishermen in Lake Victoria's Sindo beach and landing site have begun searching for the body of a fisherman who drowned in the lake.
Brian Omondi went missing after a boat he was cruising in while on a fishing mission with four other capsized on Thursday after heavy waves hit Lake Victoria after a heavy storm.
Omondi's colleagues were rescued after swimming to the edge of the lake that is the world's second largest freshwater lake.
One of the fishermen who survived told journalists that they encountered heavy waves in the water following heavy rain.
Joel Oong'o said he and his three colleagues swum against the waves and managed to reach the beach edge where they were picked by good Samaritans and taken to hospital for check-up.
Sindo beach is one of the most dangerous beaches in Lake Victoria because most winds that blow across the lake blow towards it, a development that pushes heavy water waves there.
The incident happened near Ndenda Island where nine musicians drowned in 2016 after their boat capsized.
Eight of them, however, were rescued as they cruised from Lihunda beach in Bondo to Ndenda Island to perform at a social event. The incident happened in Central Sakwa Ward in Nyangoma Division.
