Speaking to the press in Machakos on Wednesday, the MP said that there is need for urgent recruitment of more teachers.

He observed that the current teacher-to-student ratio is below standard, saying it has led to poor performance in national examinations.

“I want to ask the government to recruit more teachers to address the shortage being faced in public schools,” said Mwangangi.

The legislator said that education standards would be improved only if the government recruits more teachers.

He further supported the plan to introduce free secondary school education saying it will provide an opportunity for more students to get education.

He indicated that education remains the key to the problems facing the society and that the government should implement more measures of making it accessible and affordable.

Mwangagi further urged the government to increase the bursary allocations so that more students, especially from poor families can access education.

“The government should further consider increasing the budgetary allocations to the bursary fund so that we have more beneficiaries,” he said.
