A recruitment agency in Nakuru is now crying foul over the Middle East job ban despite having benefitted from the green pasture in the last few years. According to Damaris Wangeshi, who runs Nakuru Employment agency, they will now be forced to look for another option in creating job opportunities for Kenyans. "Life has to continue and we seek to look for an alternative of creating jobs for our people," said a bitter Wangeshi. She revealed that most of the agencies were quacks and this lead to the mistreatment of Kenyans in the foreign countries. According to the Nakuru County council office business permit department, close to 28 agencies had registered as recruitment agencies. Jane Chepkoech, a job seeker, said she was forced to pay Sh20,000 to a quack agency in the promise of getting a white collar job in Qatar but after realising the agency had no legal permit from the Labour ministry, she declined. This comes after Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi on Monday banned employment agencies sourcing jobs for Kenyans in the Middle East. Kambi revoked the firms' licences over the mistreatment of Kenyan workers in the region, following repeated complaints in the last couple of months. He said that the firms would be forced to re-apply for the licences in order to stem out middle men who contrive to mistreat Kenyans. Previously, the government banned the agencies, also stemming from the mistreatment of Kenyans in the United Arab Emirates in 2012. Kambi also called on the conclusion of Memorandum of Understanding between Kenya and the Middle East countries to ensure the dignity of Kenyans is retained.
