Gatundu North sub county commissioner has put on notice the few remaining illicit brewers and manufacturers in the sub county.
Speaking from Kamwangi on Friday 27th November 2015, Daniel Nyamiti said that the men arrested on Thursday in Gakoe will serve as a lesson to area addicts and sellers who are still penetrating back to the business.
"The constitution is clear that nobody is licensed to kill, all those businesses that continue to sell banned wines and spirits that cause harmful effects and even death will be closed and the offenders arrested," he said.
He regretted that alcoholism has become a major problem in the sub county where the lives of children, families and many young workers have been destroyed citing a recent death in Mang’u.
He urged the public to be on the lookout and report business persons still engaging in the trade to enable them to take the necessary action.
Nyamiti directed chiefs and their assistants to ensure the vice is stamped out in their areas of jurisdiction
"My office will take serious measures to curb such cases by arresting the individuals who are found engaging in such businesses," he added.
He was reacting to Thursday’s incident where 3 men were arrested while 5 escaped arrest when they were busted by the police engaging in a drinking spree in Gakoe.
