In an agreement signed between the County Government and RedCross, the programme will run for one and a half years and will entail the training of community health workers who in turn will assist in the fight of the diseases.

Speaking during the occasion, County Executive Member for health Dr.Lawrence Koteng said the county government has allocated Sh40million this fiscal year to support the community system strengthening programme.

Koteng added that a pilot programme will be rolled out in Rangwe SubCounty before spreading to other remaining seven sub counties.

"A total of 240 community health works will be trained in Rangwe SubCounty who will later be spread across the entire county to educate the locals on preventive measures of the diseases,” said Koteng.

At the same time Koteng said that HIV and aids is still a disaster in the county and called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to address the scourge.

He further revealed that the county faced resources constraints in the wake of the ever increasing number of people being infected.

While addressing the same meeting, Kenya Red cross Deputy Secretary General Halake Abshiro said that their main aim is to reduce the spread of those three killer diseases.

Abshiro added that they are targeting Homa Bay County because of its high disease burden and high death rates attributed to malaria, TB andHIV.
