Thika West Sub County Red Cross team has assured residents that it is monitoring the floods situation in Makongeni and Pilot areas.
The team revealed that Kiambu County was not severely affected by floods. They noted that some areas in Ruiru constituency, Thika West and Lari are usually affected by mendable flooding.
“We are closely monitoring flood prone areas to ensure quick response in the event of flooding or any related emergencies. We are also working closely with other agencies to ensure timely and well-coordinated response across Thika and county at large,” said Agnes Ndung’u the team coordinator.
This comes after Thika residents complained of poor drainage system in the area caused by floods from the impounding rains.
She confirmed that the region has enough relief stock to respond to emerging situations. ‘We have enough staff and volunteers who are able to cover emerging solutions in Kiambu County. We always work in collaboration with residents of where bad incidents happen. We are in need of food and clothes to cover some deficit we are encountering here in Thika,’ added Ndung’u.
However, local residents have been advised to be on high alert and move to identified evacuation sites when they sense danger.
