As the dry weather continues crippling agricultural production in many areas in the country, signs that the long rain season is nigh are a relief.
The season which usually runs from March to mid-May comes with risks like flooding, diseases, deaths and injuries. Sometimes it necessitates evacuation.
Thika region Red Cross is however prepared for any disaster that may arise.
Speaking to reporters at the Thika office today, area coordinator Joel Njoroge assured residents that they have planned ahead to handle any cases that may arise.
"We are ready for any disasters in areas like Clayworks, Kisii estate and Makongeni area where flooding is expected. We also have enough volunteers to help in the rescue if need arises,'' said Njoroge.
The coordinator mentioned that Aquaguard, mosquito nets, food, sanitary towels and blankets are ready for issuance to the victims.
''High pressure machines, drain & sewer cleaning equipment are also in place to help unblock sewerage systems in areas affected,'' he added.
He however urged the county government to continue with the support they offer to the institution.
