The Kenya Red Cross society current statistics show that approximately 299,859 people have been displaced following the heavy rains that are being experienced across the country.
“Heavy rains continue to be experienced in many parts of the country since the onset of the long rains. Approximately 299,859 people have been displaced, 19,223 animals (livestock) lost & about 21,741 acres of farmland with crops destroyed. 32 of 47 counties across the country are affected by” the Red Cross administration wrote this on their twitter page.

This number has gone up considering that on 3 may 2018, KRCS had reported that 260 000 people had been displaced and 100 had died.
On Wednesday, the government through Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho had reported that 222,456 people had been displaced. The drastic increase in the number of displaced persons comes after tragedy hit Subukia, Nakuru county where a private dam collapsed killing over 40 people on the spot.
The floods experienced in most parts of the country continue to wreak havoc leaving behind a trail of destruction of both property and human lives.
In the meantime, the government of Kenya continues to urge those living in flood-prone areas to move to higher grounds.
