The Kenya Red Cross society has confirmed that 39 people have have been hospitalized after Patel Dam in Nakuru county broke its banks .
“39 people taken to hospital last night after Patel Dam in Subukia, Nakuru County, broke its banks affecting nearby villages. Search and rescue efforts by County Government, Kenya Red Cross Society and @Ems_Kenya ongoing,” Red Cross said in a tweet.
Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui visited the scene on Wednesday night. He said the water from the dam had caused massive destruction of both property and life.
The dam is located eight kilometres from Solai Centre.
Humanitarian organizations together with Kenyan authorities are working extra hard to rescue people trapped in flood zones. They have have prioritized water, sanitation, hygiene, shelter and food response in their interventions
