The Kenya Red Cross Society has donated fifty volumes of books related to emergency care issues to the Faculty of Health Sciences Library.
While receiving the books from the society’s chief information officer Dr Richard Sang, faculty dean of the Dr Agness Thimbiri said the books would enrich the library’s collection, boost learning and research at the faculty.
She said, “The society has for long extended its community work and charity services to the university. I encourage it to continue doing so.”
Dr Sang said that the book donation was a gesture towards identifying and appreciating the Red Cross Society associates and partners in the region.
He said, “The health faculty at the university has played a big role in the local health sector since its establishment some six years ago. It deserves assistance from stakeholders.”
At the same time, tens of students at the university based at its two campuses in Nakuru Town took part in a blood donation charity activity organised by the Kenya Red Cross Society and Blood Link Foundation.
While encouraging the university’s community to actively take part in community support and charity activities like blood donation, Blood Link Foundation field officer Dr Debora Akwach said universities play a big role in community development through community outreach activities like blood donation that goes towards assisting needy people in society.
“At the university, you are encouraged to actively take part in such activities. It represents your community based responsibilities as an individual and organisation,” said Dr Akwach.
