Speaking while assessing 50 households in Saroiyot that were damaged by the heavy downpour on Sunday and Monday, Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Water and Environment Mary Njogu asked residents to quickly move to safer ground.

She also asked private developers who have built on waterways to open them saying this will avert flooding.

The County Executive who was in the company of North Rift Red Cross officials asked well-wishers to come forward and join hands with the government and offer support to the affected families.

"I want to call upon good Samaritans to host the affected families in their homes as the government explores ways of assisting the families since they have nowhere to run to," said Njogu.

“Ken-Knit has already donated 120 blankets for the affected families and we urge other individuals and organizations to follow suit,” she added.

The Environment County Executive further asked Red Cross to consider evacuating other families who are at a high risk of being swept by floods.
