CIPK Uasin Gishu branch chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini says MPs should consider passing a bill that will help reduce prices of basic commodities in the country.

Speaking in Eldoret, Monday, Bini expressed concerns that this year's Ramadan celebrations might be affected with the current high food prices.

"There are some commodities like Sugar that are very vital during Ramadan and we all know what the prices are. This is why we are urging the government and MP's to look at this issues with urgency," noted Sheikh Bini.

Currently a kilogram of sugar is retailing at between Sh190-200.

Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection and prayer for followers of Islam, known as Muslims. Each day during Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset.

This year's Ramadan begins in the evening of Friday, May 26, and ends in the evening of Sunday, June 25, 2017.
