The rate of mother to new born infections of HIV has drastically gone down due to the current interventions in health facilities.

Patricia Musale from War Memorial Hospital Nakuru which also has Comprehensive Care Unit says there have been a lot of interventions on the same hence reduced number of infections from mother to child.

“With the current management of pregnant mother who is HIV positive I think the Mother to child infection has reduced greatly,” she said.

Even as the world marked AIDs day on Friday, Musale called on Kenyans to shun stigma towards those living with HIV but rather embrace them and encourage them to use ARVs.

This even as First Lady Margaret Kenyatta pledged renewed efforts in ensuring zero new infections in the next term of five years of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

She spoke as Kenya joined the world in marking world AIDs day.

In Nakuru the ceremony was held at Nakuru’s Nyayo Garden with speakers calling for an end to stigma against those living with HIV.
