Pokot South MP David Pkosing has yelled at advocates of the referendum to change the Constitution, saying it is a plot to bring down DP William Ruto.
Pkosing, who is Ruto's close ally, asked Jubilee Party MPs to "block the proposed referendum by all means".
He said Opposition chief Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta's handshake should focus on improving the welfare of Kenyans.
The legislator said prioritizing on development will give the unity pact more meaning amid fears that it has everything to do with the 2022 succession politics.
"It is unfortunate that some people are taking advantage of the handshake to push for amendments to the Constitution. We will not allow that to happen," he said at the constituency on Monday.
The MP said anybody who is spearheading the amendment of the Constitution is undermining Ruto's bid for the presidency.
"Let them know we have the numbers in Parliament and in the public to defeat those trying to jeopardize the aspirations of our Deputy President."
"Ruto will be our President come 2022. We'll not entertain anything else," he said at a meeting with his constituents. He spoke amid calls by Rift Valley MPs for the President to come clean and assure them that he still supports Ruto's 2022 bid.
