Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has threatened to oversee the removal of County Administration Police commandant Francis Kirathe from office.
Gikaria, who yesterday accused the commandant of abuse of office, has been in the centre stage following the demolitions of stalls in the towns CBD.
“Kirathe should be removed out of the office with immediate effect. He has shown high handedness and disregard for people’s interests. These structures were erected during the day, why should they carry out demolitions at night?” Gikaria asked.
The demolitions have continued to spark outrage from various parties with the legislator defiantly opposed to plans by the county government to remove hawkers from the Central Business District without a proper plan on where they should operate from.
He has in the past protested the demolition of kiosks and food stalls located along road reserves arguing the move would render many jobless.
In January, the lawmaker sustained injuries when drama ensued between him and the county police who had been deployed to carry out demolitions in a 2am incident.
Gikaria claimed that he will soon send a letter to the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) requesting to have the commandant removed from office.
The legislator also criticized the recent demolition exercise which left four county police officers nursing injuries when a scuffle ensued between them and the traders.
“The governor (Kinuthia Mbugua) should understand that he is not the AP commandant. He should therefore handle this issue with neutrality and put the interests of these traders at heart. Who will protect ordinary citizens if the police have failed?” he posed.
