Even as the country prepares for 2017 national polls, Interior and Coordination of National Government PS Karanja Kibicho has advised chiefs and their assistants across Kenya to refrain from politics while warning that stern action shall be taken against rogue administrators.
Mr Kibicho said the law enforcers were mandated with ensuring that the rule of law is upheld and adhered to in their areas of jurisdiction adding that it was not part of their job description to propagate political ideologies among the public.
“I know most politicians are cunning enough to try and use your capacity to manipulate political opinions of the citizenry but you have to stick by your professional ethics. Do not let them recruit you as their campaign agents,” he warned.
He was speaking yesterday at Syongila Chief’s camp, Kitui Central, as he met hundreds of Kitui County security agents including county security committee, chiefs and their assistants among other security stakeholders on a routine consultative tour.
The PS further regretted that some local administrators were reportedly taking political sides and even publicly campaigning for their “favourite” politicians.
“Such behaviour will not be tolerated as it undermines your credibility as ‘eyes and ears’ of the state in your area of administration. How will you ensure there is law and order if you create division among members of the public by being partisan?” he posed to the law enforcers.
Mr Kibicho noted that, as security agents and implementers of the law, all public servants under the Interior Ministry were expected to work harmoniously with the government-of-the-day regardless of the regime’s political outlook.
“You are not even allowed to discuss politics in your bedrooms with your spouses as such betrays our pledge and commitment to be an all-inclusive administration. If I get word that you did so I will personally deal with you accordingly,” he taunted the gathering.
The PS is also expected to engage other security committees, chiefs and their assistants in Machakos and Makueni counties in consultative meetings the course of this week.
