Kisumu county residents have been challenged to safeguard food security by being economical.
Food security has been deteriorating in the region, to boost its condition modern agriculture is going to be initiated by locals.
Human right activist Kilen Omondi challenged the county government to allocate funds that would allow locals to promote modern agriculture, which would in turn boost food security.
Speaking at Tom-Mboya labour college today Omondi noted that food in region was too little to sustain those residing in it.
Omondi thinks that only through modern agriculture can food security can be enhanced in the region, and that this can be done by challenging both the authorities and locals to take the initiative.
“We need to initiate modern agriculture in our locality to boost food security in our region as by through modern agriculture, locals will be fed; hence food security,” Omondi said.
Kisumu chairperson spokesman Audi Ogada also noted that food security was poor amongst the locals and that modern agriculture would be ideal if it was initiated within the region.
