Busia players were a pale shadow of the teams that excelled in regional competitions with majority of them bowing out of contention on day one of the games that drew teams from Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega and Vihiga Counties.Busia handball champions Butula Boys were knocked out of the Term 2A games after losing two matches. They were beaten 23-13 by national champions Kimilili before falling 20-21 to Kakamega runners up Musingu High School in the second match.Kolanya Boys who finished second retained hopes of qualification after winning one match and drawing the other. They beat Mt Elgon’s Cheptais Boys 18-17 before drawing 17-17 with Mukumu.St Joseph's Chakol also retained qualification hopes after beating Losengeli 23-15 in the opening match as Bishop Sulumeti started on a lower note when they were beaten 23-13 by Mukumu. Butula who won the rugby Sevens title at County level were also eliminated from the games held at Nambale Boys High School. Also exiting the games are St Paul's Amukura High School who were runners up and Nambale who finished third. The exit of the three teams leaves National champions St Peter's Mumias, Friends School Kamusinga, Chavakali, Mukumu, Vihiga, Musingu, Bungoma High and Ebusioli to battle in the quarter and semifinals.Busia under 16 soccer champions St Paul's Amukura bowed out of the championships after losing 3-1 to Bungoma champs Kamusinde in their second match played at St Mary's Mundika High School. They were beaten 2-0 by Kakamega Green Commandos in the first match. Busia runners up Kamuriai were thrashed 5-0 by Lugari.In soccer girls, Busia runners up Nasira were eliminated from the games after losing two consecutive matches. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelebei before being handed another 5-0 thrashing by Butere. Busia runners up Aboloi were thrashed 4-1 by Chebukaka in the first match.In netball, regional champions St Cecilia Misikhu beat Busia champions Bumala AC 30-11 before rallying back to beat Ibubi 23-11 in the second match.Busia runners up Bujwang'a were beaten 35-15 by Bukhokholo in the first match before heavy rains led to the rescheduling of their second game.National and East Africa handball champions St Luke's Kimilili Boys and Moi Girls Kamusinga sailed through to the semifinals with ease at Lwanya Girls playgrounds.Kimilili who have won the national title seven times in a row opened their campaign with a 23-13 victory over Busia champions Butula Boys.Kimilili ensured a place in the last four when they beat Nyang'ori from Vihiga 33-15.Six-time national champions Moi Girls Kamusinga started their quest for the regional title when they thrashed Losengeli from Vihiga 56-7 before beating Butere Girls 30-13 in their second match.
