Speaking on Tuesday at his residence in Karen when he hosted a delegation of Jubilee leaders and aspirants drawn from the Kalenjin community, Ruto tasked the leaders to mobilize residents across the Rift Valley region which is perceived to be a Jubilee stronghold to register as voters in large numbers when the exercise starts on January 16.

“For us to win in August, we must have numbers and this can only be achieved by asking the people who are eligible to vote to register in large numbers. As you campaign in your respective wards, constituencies or counties, you must mobilise the people to register so as to fully participate in the elections,” Ruto said.

According to the Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, a similar exercise to sensitise residents to register as voters in Central Kenya is set to begin and looks to have at least 3.3 million fresh voters on the roll.

The voter registration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will begin next week and end on February 15.
