Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang Nyong’o has called on the Kisumu residents to register as voters in large numbers and put into office leaders who are good.
Nyong’o said voting good leaders will result into proper implementation of devolution services at the grass-root level.
He said residents must enjoy devolution as enshrined in the constitution.
“Devolution has failed in Kisumu, this is due to the bad leadership. There s an opportunity for the people this August to put into office better leaders, this can only be doe if you register as a voter and vote,” he said.
Speaking to residents of Muhoroni on Saturday during mass voter registration campaign, Nyong’o said the people of Kisumu have not tasted devolution.
He said funds have been devolved to the counties yet Kisumu city is in a total mess.
Nyong’o said lack of drainages in the city has affected transport during this rainy season.
He said the city is collecting huge amounts of money in revenue and should be ploughed back to develop the city.
“Our people everyday gives revenue to the city yet they get no services. The city is littered with wastes, drainages are blocked and this can be witnessed with overflows during rainy days,” he said.
Nyong’o who has interest to be the Governor of Kisumu when elections are called later this year, promised to ensure that proper structures are put in place to develop the city.
